Sunsilk is not only one of the UK’s most popular haircare brands – with sales of over a billion pounds a year – it has also taken the hard work out of hair care, so you can concentrate on enjoying the good things in life.

With so many styling products around, it can be confusing to know what to use. With its new styling range, Sunsilk offers women a helping hand in achieving the look they want, including really useful on-pack styling tips.

How it all started

  • Sunsilk made its first appearance in the Netherlands in 1954, launched as a liquid shampoo – a welcome departure from powdered sachets.
  • From 1970 to 1977, it was the first major brand to include natural ingredients such as olive oil, wild thyme, coconut and wild poppy.
  • In 2003, Sunsilk launched a new range containing unique ingredients - combining the best of the natural and scientific worlds to help combat most hair problems. Included in the range were Sunsilk Anti-frizz Aloe Serum and the One Minute Daily Repair.
  • Recent innovations include Sunsilk Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, Sunsilk Anti-Flat Shampoo, Weightless Volumising Cream and the Daily Wear & Tear Day Care cream.

  • Sunsilk holds the Guinness World Record for the most heads of hair washed and styled in one day.
  • Sunsilk had a dark and mysterious past. In July 1957 a new ‘Girl in the Mask’ press and television campaign featured images of a girl wearing a black eye mask. That got everyone’s attention!
  • In the 1960s Sunsilk entered the world of pop when the television jingle ‘The girl with the sun in her hair’ proved so popular, it was released as a single and recorded by Acker Bilk.
